YOU'VE heard the story of the drunk who, after an evening of conviviality and elbow bending with the boys in the back room, was attempting to reach his nearby domicile under his own steam. In the course of his travels (and weavings) he found himself face to face with a telephone pole. After several attempts to negotiate the short distance by encircling movements he would wind up facing the same pole. He sat down on the curb and (according to the story) calmly remarked: " 'Sno use--I'm surrounded." His horizon was limited.
