I HAVE gone through various stages in my sobriety, as most AAs seem to, and lately, I passed through one where I seemed to take my sobriety for granted. I even found myself thinking of drunks as 'those other people.' I was still conscious of being an alcoholic. I still went to meetings, but when it came to a practicing alcoholic, I couldn't quite fit myself back into the picture of being drunk. The actual drinking seemed to belong to somebody else.
