Grass Roots Opinion

OUTSIDE of AA and alone (that wouldn't work for me, and it won't work for 99 out of 100 true alcoholics), there are only two things that might help anyone stay sober. I can give you that in two simple words (and you'll still be working AA then, whether you know it or not). These two words are: Understanding and Faith!!! You must come to an understanding of, and with, yourself. In other words, take an inventory of yourself: admit that you are an alcoholic: that you are a very sick person; and that there is only one thing you can do about it; accept that obvious fact. Above all else, accept it. Understand that you must accept it, if you are to recover. Then have a sublime faith that it will work. Without understanding Faith will not work, and without Faith understanding will not work.
