Grass Roots Opinion

AT a closed meeting not long ago, I sat listening to the thoughts and ideas that bubbled up through our discussion. The words Benevolent Confusion came to my mind as an overtone of many AA gatherings. Usually, confusion of mind brings malice; but I have found a high degree of tolerance in AA, with very little malice afore-thought. We are accepted at face value when we enter any AA door. Gradually, we learn to swim a little in these dry clear waters. As the weather clears between our ears, we too, begin to get the Benevolent Confusion part of the Program. With malice towards none, we find in these groups, where two or three are gathered together--an undercurrent of warmth and a benevolent acceptance of life, as we live it in AA.
