From the Grass Roots
THE other night at the AA meeting I was struck with the similarity of all the speakers in one respect, their youthfulness. Most of us had families and children and middle-age; but all had that youthful outlook. There was pride without conceit, but rather a humble pride in what we are attempting. There was an abundance of optimism in spite of the past, there was confidence in the future on this program, there was courage born of the knowledge that we and our associates with the help of God were going in the right direction. If pride, optimism, confidence, and courage are not the attributes of youth, what is? I couldn't honestly say that our bottle-scarred group had the beauty of a graduating class, but if bright eyes and a quiet happiness can make a face radiant there was youthfulness there. Look around you at your next meeting.
