From the Grass Roots
WHEN I finally found AA after 22 years of steady drinking, I averaged four meetings a week for the first six months, and three a week for the first two years. After about the first year and a half, I found myself using the meetings as a refuge. I might fight with my wife at supper and scamper off to a meeting to forget and forgive myself. I might be pulling some fast ones during the day, but if I could get to a meeting that night, I'd be able to salve my conscience enough to get me over another day or two. This went on but I still had many upsetting resentments, fears, jealousies and bad thoughts.
