DRY TIGHT COMPARTMENTS

TO me the secret of keeping dry is not any special quality of will power, but is living in "dry tight compartments." Just as an ocean liner can be shut off into watertight compartments we should shut the iron doors on the past--the dead yesterdays--the unborn tomorrows. The load of tomorrow added to that of yesterday, carried today, makes the strongest falter. The only way you can possibly prepare for the future of sobriety is to concentrate with all your power--all your knowledge and enthusiasm on keeping dry today. Remember that the Lord's Prayer teaches us to ask only for 'today's' bread.
