Statistically Speaking

IF it should happen that, without rhyme or reason, the Alcoholics Anonymous program suddenly failed to work and its estimated 150,000 members were thrown back into an active drinking status, the impact on the world at large and the United States in particular would be appalling. Let us consider this amazing statement. Each human adult has a sphere of influence within which revolve his immediate family, his employer and co-workers, the tradesmen who serve him, his close friends, lesser acquaintances and neighbors, other more distant relatives. It even extends to the cop on the beat! Therefore, on an average, 40 people are concerned about any one particular individual. That means that 6,000,000 men, women and children are vitally affected by the way these 150,000 self-styled alcoholics conduct themselves and their affairs.
