My Favorite Character

His gift was unlocking bound-up souls

CHARLIE was a member of the Society of Alcoholics Anonymous when I met him during the Fall of 1949 in a large midwestern city. He had long been sober when I came to this society whose primary purpose is to help individuals to solve the problems of alcoholism. In his case there had been the added problem of narcotic addiction. At his death a year later he was still free of the bondage to both.
