Let It Be Now

She held her breath and felt her heart quicken. . .

AND again it was Christmas Eve and she was filled with the terror of uncertainty. Her mind was racing over the preparations for the children's fun. She had to pick Charles up at the showroom at five. She couldn't be too late or he might drink too much again and the children would have to see their gifts another time without him. How many Christmas Eves and New Year's Eves and anniversaries had she spent just this way? Full of tension, praying that this time he would come home and that their holiday would be a normal one?
