From the Grass Roots

WHY do AA members celebrate anniversaries of sobriety? I have wondered about this, and I think it is very important for active AA brothers and sisters to mark these milestones along the road of recovery with proper ceremony and gaiety. As we grow up in our chosen way of life, the AA way, we often lose sight of the man or woman who is just putting a tentative foot forward in our midst, and who needs the example of these strange people who can get up there and talk confidently about how they are maintaining their balance, regaining their health, restoring latent powers of mind, and going forward into another year's adventure full of twenty-four hour periods of soberness, happiness, and fulfillment. It's wonderful.
