NEWCOMER CONFUSED ABOUT SLIPS

I WENT to see an alcoholic very sick, who after attending three meetings said she was through, washed up. . .because "those AAs still drank and got drunk." It was uphill work trying to dissuade her but it developed she called to see me the next day, sober, and I had an opportunity to explain that people did "slip." I write this because I believe when AAs get up to "confess" in order to case their own conscience they should be very careful to explain it was a slip, and that they recognize it as such and that they do not drink and practice AA simultaneously. Indeed it was a tough job convincing this woman that we are not all a lot of hypocrites. She left me still doubtful and as this is the first time I have encountered any objection to AA on this point I am very anxious to express it now and here.
