WHAT IS HAPPENING TO ATTENDANCE AT MEETINGS?

WHY are our attendances not larger than they are? It cannot be denied that an improvement in this respect is urgently required. The group does not, indeed cannot, automatically preserve itself. It depends for its continued existence on the steadfast loyalty and cooperation of each of its members. Each of us should endeavor to find the answer to this question:--Why does that first fine flush of enthusiasm tend to evaporate and vanish? Why does an alcoholic who knows and believes that the first drink leads inevitably to misery and degradation act so inconsistently and impracticably as to refuse to avail himself of one of the most effective means at his disposal for avoiding the danger, or at least minimizing the risk? His disinclination to renew his mental and spiritual strength at the common power-house, the group meeting, may prove disastrous.
