From the Grass Roots

FIND THE SWITCH!

While I was drinking my friends and family used to tell me that if I only exerted a little will-power I could control my drinking. It is true we do need will-power, but we need more than that. In the book, Peace of Mind, a story is told of the country farmer who came to the city and spent a night in a hotel for the first time. When he retired he tried to shut off the light by blowing on it, being used to candlelight, but no matter how hard he tried, no matter how hard he blew, he couldn't shut off the light. It was only when he found the switch that he was able to accomplish it. So it is with us. No matter how hard we tried, no matter how many promises we made to our loved ones, we couldn't do it on will-power alone. We had to find a way. I know I can only do it with the help of God and the practice of the Twelve Steps.
