IN THE CHIPS

MUCH has been said pro and con about "sobriety aids" such as AA pins, badges, etc. We operate a poker chip club in the Portland Group which we consider has been a great help. We have poker chips of nine colors of which the white represents the probation period of one month, and is usually taken by a new member. He is advised that if he desires a drink more than the chip within the month to throw the chip in the gutter and have his drink. However we advise keeping the chip in the pocket with his silver so that when he reaches for the price of a drink he will see the chip, and at that moment THINK. If he keeps his white chip for one month he is presented with a red chip for one month's sobriety.
