I LIKED THE MEDICINE
You have to live it, feel it, suffer it before you know it. . .and you have to admit it before you can recover.
HERE is a drunk, shaken with remorse and self-pity, desperately wanting a drink. It is a cold day. He can get a drink by going for it. But he hesitates. Someone gave him a phone number and asked him to call it. The man who gave him the number visited him a few days before. He came quietly, introduced himself and talked when questioned, only when questioned, for three hours. There was no preaching, no sordid stories, just the news that a drunk can quit if he wants to.
