From the Grass Roots

GROWING UP AT 40

After being on the AA program for the past five months I now realize just how mixed up mentally, emotionally, and spiritually I had been for the past thirty-three years of my life. My family was broken up when I was seven years of age, and at fifteen I became an alcoholic. It was at this time I got drunk on some moonshine and got into trouble. Afterwards I was ashamed, remorseful, and afraid and didn't remember what I did until I was told about it. And so my life continued in this alcoholic fashion, always hating people, full of resentments, fears, etc.! I wrecked several cars, was in jail numerous times. I lost a lot of good jobs and was always moving to a different place to make a fresh start. I have a wonderful wife and two children, and how she ever stuck with me I'll never know.
