The Fence and I

IN my younger days, and before I had found what I thought to be the perfect problem-solver (the bottle), I visioned a stern, uncompromising Power who manifested himself through the consciences of men. A Power whose dictates were expressly stipulated in the Ten Commandments, in countless Bible scriptures, and, to some extent (via the indirect conscience-of-man route) in all our moral laws.
