FEBRUARY is a month of adversity, and a month of destiny. For the Northern Hemisphere it is the saber tooth in the jagged jaw of winter; it is often the top flame of heat in the below-the-equator summer. It is a time to try men's souls, and perhaps it was thus that the ancients fixed it as the calendar month of fewest days.
