To M.E.F. of Montreal, Canada, the "Golden Slipper" (September 1953 Grapevine). . .just a word of encouragement and to say I know how you feel. Yes, I too slipped in AA for eight solid years, and began to wonder if I would ever get it. By IT I meant the happy sobriety I saw on the other AA faces. I didn't want just sobriety but happy sobriety and peace of mind. My AA pals convinced me to keep coming back because I was certainly better off even if I slipped, as before AA I had no sobriety unless locked behind bars. So I kept coming back those whole eight years even though I had gotten terribly ashamed of myself.
