A Reasonable Reason
AMONG the many excellent reasons for attending meetings is one that recently came to my mind. All of us in AA believe, and some of us have admitted, that attendance at meetings greatly assists us to maintain our sobriety. We also know that going to a meeting requires some effort on our parts. Even though we may really enjoy the meetings and afterwards be glad we came, there is still that effort on our parts to get there. For some it is small and for others it may be greater. After a day's work perhaps we are tired and would like to stay home for a rest, or maybe there is a special show or program on for one night only that we would like to see or hear, maybe a card game, maybe a party and many other things that we may wish to do. So it does take some physical effort and also effort of will to forego these things and go to a meeting. This of course does not mean going long distances at great expense or neglecting to take care of urgent and important matters, but just every day normal alibis that we have, or believe we have, for staying away from meetings.
