The Hard Way

Without meetings or AA friends she had to do it

I SUPPOSE I could have gone on indefinitely whining at my inability to "get" the spiritual side of the program, misunderstanding the word "humility" completely, giving lip service to the Twelve Steps, rejecting the ones that didn't quite suit my fancy at the moment. Sure, I was sober and had been for a couple of years almost--but it was the longest dry drunk I've heard of. I really didn't "have AA." How did I get it? I had to lose it first.
