Family Circle

THEN AND NOW

I CLOSED the door of a small, dingy housekeeping room quietly and crept down the stairs, almost afraid to breathe, for fear I'd hear the bellowing, "Where are you going?" Down the hall I could still hear snoring and moaning. The smell of liquor seemed to follow me. As I walked outside I thought, "I made it." Just a short walk in the night air, but my thoughts never left that room. "My mate" was in there, passed out after a week's binge. How many times had I done the same thing, slipped out of a door to get away but always returning. That kind of a life went along with lying, hating and fear. It has been replaced with love, truth and faith. Over seven years ago, through the "Grace of God" we found AA. Alcoholics say they've found a new life. I know I've found a new life.
