A newcomer to AA, dry less than two months, I am thankful enough to have stumbled up Step Number One. It has been a long, long ten years since I became gropingly aware that my drinking was not of the controlled variety. But. . .you know. . ."next time I won't get so soused--or for so long." Finally, of course, I heard the referee counting "ten" and I knew the bout was over; I dragged my feet up the stairs to the AA Service Center and "turned in my gloves."
