So This Is AA

I well remember the day when I was our group treasurer and was asked to order some stuff from the States. This was about three years ago, when we were hardly known at all in this town. I went into the Bank to buy some dollars, and was given a form to fill in about it. This I did, but signed it Treasurer, Bulawayo Group of Alcoholics Anonymous. The man at the counter took great exception to this, but I was firm, and said that we never gave our names. So he went off and fetched another bloke. Eventually about four of them, the Higher-Ups, were all discussing the case. They gazed at me over the counter murmuring, "So this is Alcoholics Anonymous--fancy that." They looked me up and down, surprised, no doubt, that I appeared to be quite sober, and had no bottles protruding from my pocket or hand bag! Finally, after many hums and hahs, they agreed to stretch a point and allow the AA name to stand as a signature, by which time I was feeling quite hysterical.
