From the Grass Roots

ANOTHER CHANCE

Why did I come back to my home town when it would have been easy to go to another and make a fresh start? Because I knew, even at my first AA meeting in New York, that was best for me. This is where I did the greatest harm to those who wanted to love me. Returning here I knew that it would be impossible for me ever to walk the streets without passing those who knew my history-- and my pride would be held in its proper place. Just seeing all those people would be a constant reminder that the only way I would ever travel again, alone, would be down. Also, I knew that if I made a sincere effort, people would notice the change and perhaps, someone who had been in a similar trouble would find hope.
