My wife and I have been in AA for the past ten years (she's the alcoholic, I've just been going along for the ride). I discovered that AA practices have been rubbing off on me. My wife was a periodic drinker, had never been in jail or committed to an institution. But she was desperate for help and consented to have AA called in.
