At first I drank moderately, with no problems, but as I advanced in the military grades and my pay increased, the whiskey and sodas became stronger and darker brown in hue. I wanted to keep on with the spree after others had sensibly stopped. Later, once having started, I found I could not stop drinking. No more advancements in grades, trouble and difficulties followed. Finally cashiered out of the army after twenty years of service, I lost pension rights and chances for re-entry with the government. Everything went overboard.
