Synthesis, Not Analysis

ONE OF THE MANY HAPPY ATTRACTIONS OF AA, to my mind, is its avoidance of those systems and schemes which we once thought could be the total answer to our drinking problem. How often did I think, "If only I could uncover the cause of my drinking or the reason for my inability to handle liquor as others do. . .then I could easily eliminate that hidden cause and live blissfully as others seem to!" Too many times I tried to analyze my youth, my environment, my errors, my ambitions--but nowhere could I find that part of me that made life so miserable.
