ONCE WHEN I WAS VERY YOUNG, I was telling a non-alcoholic friend how AA works. I told him about the physical allergy, chocolate bars and helping other drunks. These were the things I then understood. My friend is a dedicated Quaker, a man of great spiritual clarity and so it was not surprising when he asked, "But what is your spiritual goal?"
