The Short Precious Years in AA

I SAT IN A COMFORTABLE CHAIR this evening, and watched and listened to the superb quiet of twilight. I looked out at the soft whiteness of the snow, across our lovely valley. My heart was stretched in gratitude to the Giver of this gift, as I sat in the silence of an early winter evening, quite by myself, longing for nothing except a way to express the fullness of the moment. It was beyond mere words, but the desire to speak of it--especially to another person who has known the torment of complete bondage to the dark chaos of compulsive drinking--is still with me.
