Cherished Malady

I HAVE A DISEASE--A FATAL DISEASE which cannot be cured. I am an alcoholic, but I am a grateful, happy alcoholic. I am grateful because as of this day, my implacable illness has been arrested in its progress. I am happy because the inspired therapy which returned me to health and sanity has also given me an opportunity for personal fulfillment in a world of values I never knew existed. Without this therapy, I know that I would now be dead. . .or living self-committed and without hope in some institution.
