You Never Know--

THE OTHER DAY I gave a piece of advice that boomeranged dreadfully. A young couple about to be married have been after me for a long time to see if I could do something to help her mother who drinks. She is a widow, and as she is going to live with her daughter and new son after they are married, they want to do something about it before entering the blissful state that marriage is supposed to be. As she did not want to own that she had an alcoholic problem and the young ones were afraid to bring up the subject with her, there was nothing I could do--except suggest that they bring her to a meeting. I was so sorry for the young people that in order to say something to help I suggested they take her to see "I'll Cry Tomorrow." They did this, and can you imagine what the old lady took out of the film? She now carries a bottle in her handbag!
