Other Problems in Living
AA WAS ORGANIZED HERE by members of the Oklahoma City AA Groups in October 1951. The 'alcoholics only' concept was employed until the spring of 1953. The scope of the program was then expanded to include many other problems in living. This change was not a sudden departure from the traditional AA but rather was brought about gradually through the needs of our inmates. There was an apparent need here for Narcotics Anonymous, Gamblers Anonymous, Convicts Anonymous, etc., similar to those found on the outside. However, our institutional activity time schedule was so full that it was decided to combine all these various "anonymi" into one activity. First we studied the situation carefully and talked it over with various representatives of AA who visited the institution.
