From One Alcoholic's Mother to Another

I WRITE of my experience with alcoholism in a daughter and how Al-Anon helped the entire family adjust to her problem, which a family must do. There's no need to recapitulate what went on prior to the point where I got desperate. I'll outline the new alignment since that is the important thing. I read all valid data on alcoholism, went to AA meetings and (this may be frowned on) I paid my daughter $5.00 to go to a meeting. This was the only way to get her there. Naturally she took it, went to the meeting and continued sly drinking. But I went to Al-Anon. That five dollars started the ball rolling in the right direction.
