A DRUG PRESCRIBED to effect a bodily change often influences the patient's psychological condition as well. With a drug as potent as disulfiram (Antabuse), psychic repercussions are expected. These can be strongly negative in character, since disulfiram forces the alcoholic to avoid drinking. Unless he is given psychological help at the same time, the enforced, sobriety may evoke problems more difficult to manage than the alcoholism itself . . .
