FRANK AT KINGS CROSS told of the alkie who, returning from the psychiatrist and not wanting to reveal the doctor's verdict that he was an alcoholic, passed a music store where the word "syncopation" caught his eye. This, he thought, would dazzle the old lady with science! So when the usual, "What did the doctor say, dear?" came up, he announced that he was suffering from "Syncopation." After tea, his wife, curious to find what disease this was, called him into the lounge. With open dictionary in hand she said, "I'm sure I can't follow the doctor, dear. Here it says 'syncopation is the act of hopping from bar to bar.'"
