A FRIEND OF MINE, threatened with a nervous breakdown, was persuaded to consult a psychiatrist. After their first session, the doctor gave her a list of things to do and made a weekly appointment for her. Two weeks later he telephoned her and asked why she had failed to keep her appointments.
