Plainly Speaking

BEFORE finding AA my life was sure a mess. I started quite young to make a mess of my life and, strange as it seems, I thought I was real smart in doing the things I did. At the same time I knew I was doing wrong. Plainly speaking I was a skid row bum and, as such, I carried on until I was near sixty-four years old--sixty-four years as a worthless bum. All during those years I thought I was smart. Then in 1944 I had the wonderful good fortune in finding, or rather in AA finding me. So started the finest, most satisfying part of my cockeyed life, thanks to the AA program and the people in AA.
