AA cannot make us sober. We must do it ourselves. AA cannot keep us sober. We must do it ourselves. To get sober we stop drinking; to stay sober we refuse to take that first drink. Only through our own efforts can we achieve sobriety. To accomplish any do-it-yourself project we must have the know-how. We learn the know-how by doing; by trial and error; and by accepting the experience of others as a guide.
