A Senator Evaluates the Steps and Traditions
Senator Margaret Chase Smith (Maine, Rep.) points out the value of the 12 Steps and Traditions to alcoholics and non-alcoholics alike
WHILE IT is a pleasant privilege to write for your special Twenty-fifth Anniversary publication, I find my assignment not altogether easy. Being a temperance woman myself, I have not experienced the challenge that every member of Alcoholics Anonymous knows so well. Unlike you, I have not proved my mettle because I have never had to face a challenge to sobriety. Hence it seems scarcely appropriate for me to write upon a subject that you already understand so deeply.
