The Sober Critic

A movie critic reveals some of the tactics Hollywood press agents employ to influence good notices for alcoholic performers

I AM A movie reviewer and a sober member of AA, a condition that has prevailed for nearly eight years. The sobriety antedates the critical work. Before that I was a reporter, an editor, a foreign correspondent. But I had always wanted to be a critic. That I became one was one of the subsidiary benefits of AA, a direct result, unsought by me, an almost miraculous story but too lengthy to be recounted here.
