The Nearest Manifestation

THE arrival of a seed catalogue on a cold gray January day--when robins still linger in the south and snowdrops still sleep underground--is my favorite harbinger of spring. Its brightly colored pages renew in me the same kind of hope I felt when I first dipped into the Big Book in the winter of my drinking.
