I Didn't Become an Alcoholic (I Was One)

MANY speakers at AA meetings say that they became alcoholics because they drank too much for too long a time. For me, that statement should be reversed: I drank too much for too long a period of time because I am an alcoholic. I believe that a person who is not sick to start with will not drink too much over a long period of time.
