Promises to Keep an AA Mother Declares a Dividend

THE fall that I first attended an AA meeting my son was beginning his senior year in high school and my daughter was entering the same school as a freshman. The names of these two children had for a long time topped my mental list of reasons I should stop drinking. It is proof to me of the insidious power of alcohol over the alcoholic that I could not stop on my own, even for my children. More than once I felt that the only thread holding me to life was a few lines of Robert Frost's from "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening."
