Short Snorts

A rural weekly newspaper appeared two days late and an announcement on the front page specified late typesetting as the reason. Then, out of respect for the manufacturer of the typesetting equipment, it was stated that the delay was not occasioned by mechanical failure. "The basic cause of this delay," the announcement went on, "had its beginning many years ago in a nearby cornfield. The corn ripened, was mashed, fermented, distilled, aged in wood for many years, and finally reached our operator."
