Happy Viking

We have just finished loading and are going to sail at midnight for Japan again. This time we were very lucky, arriving in Vancouver on Saturday afternoon. I had the evening off so I went ashore and met one of my AA friends and he took me to a meeting in a small village outside Vancouver. There were lots of visitors there from other groups in and around Vancouver and we had a very good meeting. I was called upon to speak so I had to produce my best school English and do the best I could. It was a little hard to give a speech in a foreign language but once I got started it went all right. They were very pleased to hear an Internationalist, and the lengths we seafaring people have to go to keep sober. I told them that reading the Big Book and recalling on lonely watches what speakers said at meetings was a real good help.
