Across the miles

To B. K., of Glendale, California: Thank you for your January Grapevine article "You Sure Have Something!" I'd like to share with you a little of what it meant to me in early January in a hospital bed in Oklahoma City. I was being prepared to face a serious diagnosis (not cancer, though). This particular Sunday had been rough. You know, that demon, self-pity. I'd asked a good Al-Anon friend to come to see me. She did immediately. She gave me straight Al-Anon and AA talk, especially about the Serenity Prayer--"to accept the things I cannot change." That helped! But that night I turned directly to your article. Believe me it was more than coincidence. After reading and re-reading it--true serenity came to me in that hospital room. When the actual diagnosis confirmed my doctor's and my fears, I was really ready to accept the diagnosis. You and God as well as my Al-Anon friend and my fine, understanding physician helped me accept it. Yes, I shared your article with him, explaining what it had meant to me.
