Slipping Into a Slip?

DO YOU think that a slip starts with that first drink? Not so, my friend. First the weeks, or months, or years of sobriety slip by without true gratitude to the Higher Power for keeping us sober. Then our humility slips away from us and we climb into the driver's seat. Pretty soon we start to slip up on attending meetings, and we slip into the habit of not saying our prayers. Before long the thought slips into our mind that the world is against us and people don't treat us right. Then we slip into the habit of thinking that a binge would be fun, or that it would show other people what we thought of them. By this time our thinking has slipped so badly that we slip into a bar or liquor store--and then we slip that first drink down our throat. "There's many a slip 'twixt the cup and the lip."
