1.THE ONE-ROOM DRUNK

AUTHOR'S INTRODUCTION: In the last hundred years or so, an awful lot has been written about the evils of drink and the virtues of giving it up. This undoubtedly makes excellent reading for all those people who have not experienced the joys to be derived from this oldest of the avocations, but it is hardly comforting to the rest of us. For that reason, I believe it is high time someone spoke up in the defense of the lush. And to him, with nothing but admiration and understanding, is this series dedicated. If "it takes one to know one," as the saying goes, then I am the one it takes and I hope you are the one I know.
